  5. *** Standard Installation ***
  6.  
  7. Follow this easy one-time installation procedure:
  8.  
  9. 1) Create a directory to hold the Zoo related files.  The
  10. recommended directory name (used in the following instructions) is
  11. "C:\Zoo".
  12.  
  13. 2) Copy all Zoo-related files to this directory.  At a minimum
  14. you need the following files:  
  15. Zoo.EXE
  16. Zoo.HLP
  17. Fineware.hlp
  18. 5ppuzzle.wmf
  19. redbrick.bmp
  20.  
  21. 3) Note:  You will also need a copy of VBRUN300.DLL.  This file is
  22. available within many CompuServe forums. To obtain this file from
  23. CompuServe, GO WINUTIL and search for the file VBRUN3.ZIP.
  24.  
  25. 4) You may optionally copy the following files to C:\Zoo:
  26.    CMDIALOG.VBX   
  27.    THREED.VBX
  28.    MHTAB.VBX
  29.    MHRUN500.dll
  30.    MHWAVE.VBX
  31.  
  32. Note:  It is possible that you may have existing copies of these files
  33. within your WINDOWS or WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or within other directories
  34. on your system.  These files are used by many different applications both
  35. from shareware and commercial companies.  The proper location for these
  36. files is within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  Caution, before you copy
  37. these files to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you should use the Windows
  38. File Manager to see if copies of these files already exist.

  40. If these files are not present within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, you
  41. may simply copy them into it and proceed to step 5. 
  42.  
  43. If versions of any of the files are already on your computer, you should
  44. use the Windows File Manager to look at each file's date & time to determine
  45. if the existing version is newer than the files included within the 
  46. ZOO.ZIP file.  If your existing files are newer, The Zoo should
  47. work just fine with them and you can proceed to step 5.
  48.  
  49. If the Zoo files are newer, you should move your original files
  50. to a temporary directory in case you encounter problems with other
  51. software and need to get them back.  
  52.  
  53. Once you have moved the older files to a temporary location, you may
  54. copy the The Zoo supplied versions to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  55. Note:  Once The Zoo is installed and running, you can use it's ability
  56. to peek inside files and view the file's version information.  This will 
  57. generally confirm which one is the older version.
  58.  
  59. 4) Use the Windows Program Manager to place The Zoo within an
  60. existing program group or create a new group and then add the program
  61. to it.  Refer to your Windows' documentation on adding new programs
  62. and groups.  
  63.  
  64. That's all there is to installing The Zoo. 
  65.  
  66. Remember that while The Zoo is active, online help is always
  67. available by pressing the F1 key.
  68.  
  69. Common installation problems:  
  70. Many of today's applications include components from other 3rd party
  71. distributors.  These components are like snap-together parts.
  72. When an application is initially designed, the programmer
  73. is probably using the latest version of all of the components his
  74. application needs.  Over time, these components may be enhansed to
  75. include new features and capabilities.  A frequent problem occurs when
  76. a newer application makes use of features that were not available
  77. in earlier version of the software.  This can cause problems when
  78. multiple versions of these components exist on your computer. 
  79. Please refer to the following list of files and eliminate older
  80. version if possible.

  84.    MHTAB.VBX
  85.    MHRUN500.dll
  86.    MHWAVE.VBX

  88. SYMPTOM:  A GPFault occurs when you launch the program.  Normally, this
  89. will be the result of a conflict with some aspect of The Zoo and
  90. your video card.  The module that reports the fault will have a file
  91. extension of .DRV and most likely, you will be using a driver with more
  92. than 256 colors.
  93. CURE:  Make sure that you are using the latest driver.  Contact your video 
  94. card manufacturer.  If this does not fix it, try adjusting the number of
  95. colors used up or down as well as adjusting the resolution. If this still
  96. does not correct the problem, use the standard VGA drivers which ship
  97. with Windows.
